Cherie and Rob had a springtime backyard wedding last April – the “backyard” being Cherie’s grandparents’ home, with a sprawling, gorgeous, green hillside, dotted with lupines and other wildflowers, and a creek with blackberry brambles. It was an extra special Santa Rosa wedding, where Cherie got to be a fairytale-gorgeous bride in a place where she grew up playing and running wild in all of that Sonoma County beauty, with perfect weather and a lot of family love. It’s a lovely home, that her grandparents – who were my and Devon’s landlords before we bought our house! – built themselves 50 years ago. It was bittersweet to have all of their families together in this place, as Cherie’s grandmother broke a hip right before the wedding, and had to be in the hospital instead of her own home where the wedding was, while Cherie and Rob shared their vows and celebrated into the night. But her loving grandfather, Jim, was determined to be there, despite advanced age and some health challenges, and it was beautiful to see their special connection. Happy belated anniversary, Cherie and Rob! I was honored and touched to be a part of your day, and I hope you two had a wonderful anniversary, and that your families are all healthy and well.
