My family sends out New Year cards, instead of Christmas ones, because who really needs another thing to take care of before the holidays?! This way, while we may not grace everyone’s holiday card display wall, we’re a little pleasant, belated surprise in our closest family and friends’ mailboxes, after the rush of craziness is over. Probably someday I’ll get it out before the end of the year, but that day might not come when I have a 6 year old and a business. So for now, the new year it is. Here’s our card, in case you wanted one but didn’t get one: And this year I was blessed like 5 times over, with wonderful photos to choose from. A few photographer friends got together to swap family portraits, just for fun, and in time for the holidays. I wasn’t sure how it would work out logistically, but it was amazing. It was so fun to visit with people, and my family felt comfortable and happy in front of the camera (no easy feat!), and the best party (besides getting to see friends!) was seeing the end result of so many talented photographers’ work. Each woman (and one man) has a unique eye and perspective, and every single one photographed us beautifully. It was a lovely reminder that each of us have something unique to offer, and that each style is beautiful in its own right. I learned some shooting tricks, and I’ve been doing this for 13+ years! I will say, I was probably more nervous shooting my photo friends than I am with 99% of my clients. But I’m pretty happy with how the shots turned out, and want to share a few here. First off, my lovely friend Jamie’s reaction was the perfect testament to my work – this is EXACTLY what I want to provide people with! She’s basically quoting my mission statement without knowing it : ) Anyway, here are some of my favorites (that I took of the other families) from that day! Can’t wait to do it again next year.
