Bodega Bay Proposal Shoot, Lacey and Hope

lesbian couple proposal portrait, bodega bay

The summer of 2020 was weird (wouldn’t you agree?!). We were all kinda stifling at home, and escaping to the coast was one of the highlights of that time for my family. So it was extra-super-special to get to capture this beautiful couple getting engaged at Bodega Head! I got to be back at work, to have an excuse to scout out the Sonoma coast, and to help Lacey – who was planning everything remotely from their home in Louisiana – orchestrate the sweetest proposal to her girlfriend Hope!

Lacey really wanted an ocean overlook in Bodega Bay to propose in front of. I warned her repeatedly that it would almost certainly be insanely foggy and incredibly windy – that it was highly likely it would be so foggy, we wouldn’t be able to see the ocean even from the beach – that she might feel like she was going to be blown over the edge when getting down on one knee to propose (and anyone who’s been to Bodega Head knows what I’m talking about!). And fogged-in can be so romantic and gorgeous, diffusing the light and flattering everyone’s skin. But there’s only so much I can do when that fog is blanketing the ocean…

Luckily, we got the most perfect, stunning blue sky day with no wind. WOW.

Hope, of course, said yes to Lacey’s beautiful proposal! I used my theater background (kidding… sort of) to pretend to be a birdwatcher, since there’s absolutely nowhere on that bluff to hide, taking mediocre pictures of seagulls and pelicans, and even a family of deer tramping around the ice plant! Before whirling around to capture this special, wonderful destination proposal. Thank you, Lacey and Hope! It was a treat to be a part of.
