Today’s couple is very special… they’re my parents! Celebrating 40 YEARS of marriage today.
When I was young, I thought they looked very grown up (and very dated – er, retro) in their wedding photos from 1972. Now I think they look like such babies. And I’m very grateful that they have stayed together all of these years, and that they’re happy, healthy, and here to get to know their granddaughter with us.
Forty years ago, they had so many guests, that they all piled onto the roof at my grandparents’ house in Stinson Beach. The bridesmaids’ dresses were brown velveteen patterned with orange and yellow marigolds, and their wedding cake was carrot cake with real marigolds decorating it. Beautiful autumn, 70’s wedding. Oh, and my dad rocked a headband AND bolo tie.
We’ll be celebrating with a luau-themed party my siblings and I are throwing for them. It’s been an adventure planning an event during the height of wedding season. I hope to have some photographs to share soon.
